Burns Night
Burns Night, at its best, is a time to be hopeful, striking a balance between life's joys and sorrows. If Shakespeare's poetry scales the heights of poetic achievement, Robert Burns' poetry sweeps the broad rolling plain of common humanity, with all its triumphs and disasters. He writes about hope, courage and the joy of being alive in a world of terror, darkness and fear.

Cocaine' drink claims to be real thing
Anti-drug campaigners today attacked the makers of a soft drink who have called their product cocaine.

The high-energy drink is being billed as a "legal alternative" to the class A drug, using a massive hit of caffeine instead of cocaine.

Its maker claims the title is "a bit of fun" but critics slammed the technique as a cynical ploy which could tempt young people into using drugs.

The drink's inventor, Jamie Kirby, said: "It's an energy drink, and it's a fun name. As soon as people look at the can, they smile."
Changing Children's Eating Habits
Moves to improve the quality of meals in English secondary schools have resulted in fewer pupils taking them this term, a BBC News survey suggests.

Fifty-nine local authorities responded, of which 35 (59%) said the number of pupils eating dinners had gone down.

Of those, 71% agreed Jamie Oliver's healthy meals campaign was a reason.

However, the School Food Trust - set up by the government in 2005 to improve school food - predicted that the downturn would be temporary.
Pregnant Women and Toddlers Get Free Fruit
Pregnant women and toddlers from low income families are to get free fruit and vegetables under a new scheme.

The government's Healthy Start scheme will provide parents with vouchers to buy fruit and vegetables, as well as milk and formula for babies.

The vouchers will be worth £2.80 per week and made available for pregnant women and families with children aged between one and four.

People with children under a year old will get two vouchers each week.

Vitamin supplements will also be available under the scheme, run by the Department of Health.
